My bud, MrAnubie, and I were playing Red Dead trying to get him the Most Wanted trophy. We had a good plan, one that worked well for me before; hole up in one of the mansion towers at Escalera and raze the town. All the other players on the server were elsewhere, so I figured they'd leave us alone.
Of course, this is Red Dead's multiplayer...so I was completely wrong. As soon as the other players figured out what we were up to, they immediately converged on us.
I had the brilliant idea to hang on the ladder leading up the tower so the Mexican army couldn't climb up after my friend. Whether that actually works remains to be seen. Shortly after we started, my friend came under fire from another player. I was staring at a ladder, so I couldn't see what was going on. So, naturally, I was confused when I saw his name scroll by on the notices. When he told me what happened, I suggested that he just come back and ignore them. Surely they'd get bored and move on, right?
After about 10 or so minutes of this and more players popping up, I knew it was time to abandon the trophy and go on the offensive. I climbed up the ladder and took inventory. We were surrounded on almost every front, so I got in cover and went to work.
Now, we aren't the best this world has to offer, but we aren't shabby either. Using everything in our arsenal, we held that tower for a good two to three hours. We'd made our own little tower defense game. Most of the time, I was sniping or just watching player activity on the map. Anubie started as a sniper too, but eventually switched to a more aggressive approach. He ran around town getting the ones that were out of my range. We even had the odd person join our posse to help fend them off.
The other players tried everything; sniping from a ridge, dynamite from the town, rushing the tower, sneaking around the side/back/interior of the mansion, running around the outer wall...we answered it all with lead. We probably could've held it longer, but the attackers stopped coming...there wasn't a reason to. So, victorious, we went back to our original plan. A few dead NPCs, 10 minutes, and an escape later, Anubie got his Most Wanted trophy.
A new trophy and some jerks taught a bit of a lesson. All in all, a good session I'd say!
